About

About Kyrgyz Seasons

Kyrgyz Seasons is an independent guide to the seasons and routes of Kyrgyzstan. We collect what you can see in each place in each month, how high it lies, how to get there and when it is better not to go. The site is made by a small team in Karakol, in the Issyk-Kul Region. We do not sell tours on these pages, and there is no advertising here.

The project

What Kyrgyz Seasons is

A reference for anyone choosing where to go in Kyrgyzstan, and in which month.

What is on the site
Pages on places and routes, the seven regions, a map of the country, and round-up articles that each answer one traveller’s question: for example, how to travel independently, or where to go for a day from Bishkek and Karakol.
Questions it answers
Which month to go, what the weather is like at altitude, what is open at that time, how long the walk is and how long the journey takes, and what to prepare in advance.
Languages
The site is published in 11 languages. Russian is the language of the original texts.
What the site does not have
Bookings, payments and advertising. We do not sell tours on these pages.

Readers

Who this guide is for

For those travelling on their own
For anyone putting a trip together without a travel agency: choosing the month, the place and the way to get there, and wanting to see the conditions before buying a ticket.
For those choosing a season
For anyone who knows what they want to see but not when it is possible: a lake without snow, a pass without ice, a city outside the heat.
For those heading into the mountains
Altitudes, elevation gain and the temperature at a lake or pass are given separately from the temperature of the city you start from.
What the guide does not replace
The guide does not replace a guide on the ground, a weather forecast, a map or the local services. In the mountains, check conditions for the day you set out, and in an emergency call 112.

Approach

What sets the guide apart

Places and months together
For each place we show in which months it is worth going, the temperature by day and by night, and what changes at the edges of the season.
Altitudes next to the weather
The weather at a lake at 3,500 m and in a city at 1,700 m differs by tens of degrees. We show both figures side by side, not an average for the region.
Dated facts
Practical statements rest on a source and a date of verification. If there is no answer, or it goes out of date quickly, the page says so plainly. More in the section “How we check facts”.
Photos with credits
Every place has a page with the photo authors, licences and notes on changes.

Who makes it

Who makes the site

The team
A small team in Karakol, in the Issyk-Kul Region. There are no names on the site: the project as a whole is responsible for the content of the pages, not an individual author.
How we work
We gather data from open and official sources, cross-check it, add a date and keep copies of the responses. The checking procedure is described on a separate page.
Advertising and sales
There is no advertising on the site. We do not sell tours on these pages, and there are no bookings or payments.
The “Ask about a trip” button
Place pages have a button like this. It opens an email to us with a subject line and the page address. It is a question to us, not a purchase.

In brief

Frequently asked questions

Where does the data on the site come from?

From official pages, providers’ schedules, open maps and scientific databases. Climate figures come from the ERA5-Land model, and photos mostly from Wikimedia Commons. In detail: how we check facts.

Why does it sometimes say “check for your date”?

That is how we mark prices, timetables, opening hours and rules that change or depend on your passport. We show the last confirmed value and ask you to check it before you travel.

How do I report a mistake?

Write to hello@kyrgyzseasons.comwith the page address, what is wrong and what supports that. More on the “Contact”.
