  1. On foot and by marshrutka · full day

    Day 1: the town and hot springs

    In the morning: the cathedral, the museum, the mosques and lunch in the lane serving ashlyan-fu, a cold Dungan noodle soup. In the afternoon: the hot pools at Ak-Suu.

    Day 2: Jeti-Oguz

    The red Seven Bulls and Broken Heart rocks; higher up, the Kok-Jaiyk meadows and the Maiden Braids Waterfall.

    Marshrutka №372 or a shared taxi from Ak-Tilek Market: around 40 som to the village, 80–120 som to the resort, from 7:00 check for your date The service is also called No. 371: ask whether it goes to the resort.

    The rocks are by the resort. To the meadows it’s ≈6 km, about 3 h; to the waterfall, another ≈2.4 km.

    Day 3: Karakol Gorge

    Forest, river and mountains just beyond the town: the biggest mountain day you can do without staying overnight.

Tips

How not to waste a day

  • E Jeti-Oguz leave in the morning: marshrutkas from 7:00; depart for the return trip by 16:00 check for your date
  • Rain or cold ? Swap the days around: the town and the hot springs work in any weather.
  • E Fridays around midday there are prayers at the Dungan Mosque, so see the town on another day or in the morning.
  • E Sunday morning, add the livestock market: 7–11.
  • Cash: at the bazaars and in small places you can pay only in som, so get some before you set off.
  • Ask the driver about the last departure back while you’re on your way there.

Should I book accommodation in Karakol in advance?

If your dates matter, confirm the booking by message 1–2 days ahead and check arrival time again. Ask about heating, hot water and the exact map pin.

Where can I leave luggage while trekking?

Agree storage with your host before booking and label your belongings. Avoid leaving documents and valuables without a separate arrangement.

Where can I hire a tent, sleeping bag and boots?

There is no confirmed comprehensive list of hire shops or current prices. Ask about availability, sizes, all included items and the deposit for your date.
